Vito the Pug wins the prestigious Best in Show title at the 2024 National Dog Show, held at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pennsylvania. The charming Toy Group winner triumphed over a competitive field of 1,940 dogs from 205 breeds and varieties.
Vito first outshined 24 other breeds in the Toy Group before going paw-to-paw with champions from six other categories. Verde, a Welsh Terrier who topped the Terrier Group, was awarded Reserve Best in Show.
This year’s competition featured standout winners across all groups, including Rupert the Berger Picard (Herding), The Zit the Ibizan Hound (Hound), JJ the Lhasa Apso (Non-Sporting), Houston the Clumber Spaniel (Sporting), and Monty the Giant Schnauzer (Working).
Vito’s playful demeanor and perfect conformation wowed the judges, earning him this coveted title. His handler, Laura Evans, expressed joy and gratitude, calling it a “dream come true” for the four-year-old pug, known for his charisma and showmanship.
The National Dog Show, broadcast by NBC following the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, continues to captivate more than 20 million viewers annually. Now in its 23rd year on television, the event remains a Thanksgiving tradition for families across the U.S.
Last year’s winner was Stache, a Sealyham Terrier from Pennsylvania. As Vito joins the ranks of champions, he marks a significant win for the pug breed, which rarely claims the top spot in major dog shows.
Fans of the show eagerly anticipate what’s next for Vito, who is expected to continue competing in top-tier events.
